Happy Birthday, Mom

In the next couple of days, my mom will be surprised to find out I've high jacked her blog and posted this. (That's the price you pay when you rely on your daughter for technology support.) Today, my mom turns 70 years old. She's lived a great life, primarily dedicated to her husband and children.
My mom has an amazing singing voice, but she didn't get to explore her talent much because she chose to focus on others instead. I'm so grateful for the choice she made to stay home with my siblings and me. Most of what I do right as a wife and a mother is based on her example. I think she is remarkable. She is the friendliest person I know, sometimes embarrassing us to strike up conversations with strangers. She is a master with flowers and knows the name of every plant under the sun. She can stretch a dollar a mile and live for a week on a saltine cracker (much to my dad's dismay). She is selfless in sharing with her children and grandchildren, giving them everything she can while going without herself. Sometimes we don't appreciate her the way she deserves or give her the time we should. She is the first person I want to talk to when something in my life goes good or bad. She has always been my best friend and confidant.
Most women don't want you to know their age, but I think my mom should broadcast the fact that she's 70. She looks amazing! When we travel together, people think we're sisters. I'm honestly afraid that one day they'll think I'm her mom. (When that day comes, I will no longer travel with her.)

My mom is not famous and her birthday will not make headlines, but to those who know her, she is something special.
