HOT SUMMER

AUGUST

We love this flower in the back yard.
A new month and still wonderful summer.  We hate that the kids go to school soon.  They are so much fun and work so hard for us.
The second day Dad went to see Dr. Ballard.  He is a Vascular Surgeon.   Dr Hwang wanted him to see this doctor because the veins in Dad’s legs were a concern.  He did and is fine but another appointment in 3 months.
Aug 3rd is my brother Milt’s birthday were he alive.  It is still a reminder for me.  All is well.  We decided to go fishing at Deer Creek and then meet up with Erik and Clark’s families for some fun.  Bad idea, Saturday is not a good day on the water.  We could not even find a place to park and the line to even get in was very long.  We called it off.  We went home and bought new tires for the boat trailer.  At least we did something with the boat.  In our frustration, we went to Blaze Pizza for dinner.  Dad loves that place.  We took it home and had a great evening.
The next day was Fast Sunday which is always good.  We were invited for dinner at Clark’s.  The Howells were there also.  They are friends of Clark’s family and their returned missionary, Spencer, gave the Home Evening lesson.  He was marvelous.

The third one from the left is Spencer  and the last one is Jonny.   Everyone was there for the lesson.

Dad and Clark
The Spirit was very strong and everyone contributed because of the way he led the discussion.  Of course the dinner was plenty of delicious food and treats.
The next day Dad was called to jury duty and was there for only 3 hours when they invited the people to go home.  He earned a whole $18.  I worked in the yard and cleaned our home.
Tuesday Dad had a Dr. Appointment with Dr. McKell and it went so well he could do the next step at the same apt.  It is for the tooth implant.   He then took my car for a check-up and did some things in the garden.  It is really looking good.
Wednesday we spent the morning fishing.  It was wonderful in that it was not at all crowded.  We didn’t even get a bite but still has so much fun.

It was a cloudy day so we didn’t even have to put the top up.  I can’t spell that other word (Bimini). That afternoon Clark came and helped pick the garden.  There were so many beautiful string beans.  I even put some up.
August 8th, I saw our dermatologist, Dr. Huber, for a concern with a wart right on my eyebrow.  It is so ugly.  He burned it and some on my face and one on my eyelid.  It surely seems we see doctors a lot.
Friday, Dad took me to Saratoga Springs to meet up with my sister, Karen.  I haven’t seen her since before our mission.  Her nephew had died and we went to the funeral together.  Bryson, Scott Marble and Aunt Kathy were there also.  The church was packed to the stage and it was a beautiful funeral where the restored gospel of Jesus Christ was taught.  His bishop gave a message that reminded me of conference.  It was powerful.  After the service, Karen and her 2 boys took me to lunch at Costa Vita.
We then went to Vineyard to watch Bryson’s daughter play soccer.  She is a cutie and played well.  I love Bryson’s wife.  She is pretty and so nice.  He scored.  They have 3 beautiful children and live in Heber.  He does window shutters or blinds whatever they’re called.  Dad met us there and everyone went to their homes.  Karen went to the airport.  It was so good to be with her and feel our love for each other.  She is my only sister and has always treated me with such love.
Saturday, the 10th, Erik, Shanelle, Camden and Asher came to mow our lawns.  They do such a good job and work fast.  Asher even mowed.
I spent most of the day working on July’s blog.  I am always so far behind.  At 6:30, we went to Curtis Porter’s wedding reception.  I think they got married in the Provo City Temple.  It was held at the Springville Art Museum.  They have made a reception center there that is unbelievable.  We saw many people we have not seen for a while.
We left there to go to Kolton’s blue and white scrimmage.  He played well and Erik and Parker coached.  It was fun to see Parker out there with his dad.
After that, we went to Clark’s to leave some chicken scraps.  They had been to Bear Lake for 2 days with their tent trailer.  Molly announced that she had been chosen for the Best Teacher Award at the PG pool.  What a great family.
Sunday, church as always was so good.  We then went to Clark’s for dinner.  It was Curry something and I had seconds it was so good.  For home evening we watched a movie about a man in Dianne’s family who literally spent his life, after baptism, helping the Prophet, Joseph Smith, financially and physically hasten the growth of the church.  I believe his name was, John Tanner.  There were tears shed by all.  It is a beautiful story on the church web site.
Monday, the 12th, we went fishing again.  We love this time together but not a bite.  I at least saw a large trout do a beautiful completely jump out of the water not far from us; and a big carp poke his head out of the water.  We still have a good time.  Not very many on the water during the week.
Tuesday is our morning to work on the berm and in the garden.
Hope you can see Dad hoeing in there.
The corn is as tall as an elephant's eye.  (from the musical Oklahoma)
I needed to take a cake to Cheryl Klaass for a funeral but when I got home I felt Dad looked very tired.  He said he was fine.  He had been working too hard in the garden.  We went to The Sportsmen to buy some worms and when we got there Dad confessed that he had another cold sweat and dizzy time while I was gone.  After giving my suggestion, we stopped and thought about it and realized both of us had been told, by the Spirit, that he was not to go fishing.  He called Brother Bush and gave him the news so they changed it to the day after.  I felt so relieved.  We stopped at A&W for a root beer float and some dinner.  We got home I did some more beans and we decided that working in the heat of the day should not be done.
Wednesday the 14th, before it got too hot I weeded a row and a half in the tomatoes. We then decided we needed to go see “The Fighting Preacher” at the Cinnamark.  We had read “The Lamb and the Lion” before our mission because it is about Willard Bean and his wife who were called on a mission to Palmyra to ease the hatred the people had for Mormons.  They were called for 5 years and released 25 years later after accomplishing more than what they were sent to do.  They loved the people in Palmyra and the people love them dearly.
Brother Bush called to say he wasn’t doing well and they will see what next week brings.  We are so relieved because dad wasn't feeling either but sorry Cliff is ill.
This little woodpecker loves our apple tree.

Thursday, the 15th we went to the Provo Temple to do initiatories and an endowment.  What a beautiful day.  I only had 4 names so decided to ask someone if they had a name for me.  The first sister I ran into was Gerda Edmunds.  Of course she had a name.  It was wonderful to know I hadn't forgotten the words to that sacred work.  When we went to the session I sat by a sister who had such a strong spirit about her.  When it was time to go to the veil she looked at my card and asked if I was a Bayles from Blanding.  What a shocker.  She had noticed Bayles on my card.  We found out that her husband's grandmother, Aunt Inez Hurst Rogerson, was Granny's sister, Dora Hurst Bayles.

Friday I went ministering.  I love my companion and the sisters we get to know, serve and help.  They are wonderful.  Of course I took veggies from our garden.
At 5:30 we took rabbit food for Scott’s rabbits and a short visit with them.  We then went to Clark’s and took chicken food for their chicks and a short visit.  We ended up at Pleasant Grove HS for Kolton’s football game.  Kolton played very well #7
and Erik coached very well.  Parker was on the sidelines with a clip board.  He leaves for his mission next month.  How fun it was to see them on the field together.

Saturday we went to our ward’s summer breakfast.  They serve a great feast.  It was fun to see so many members we never have a chance to visit.  There are so many new faces.  That afternoon Erik’s boys came to mow our lawns.  They do a wonderful job and now Asher is helping.  After they mowed we served snow cones.  We couldn’t decide what to have for dinner so we went to Blaze Pizza again.
Sunday the 18th, we talked in the 5th ward sacrament meeting with the High Councilman, Vance Law.  We think we did a good job, at least people said we did.  Since it is I our ward, we then went to our meetings.
Tuesday, Aug. 20th, after we finished our yard work, we went to see Dr. Huber again because I didn’t feel good about how the freezing on my eyebrow looked.  He said it was cancer, karatoacanthoma      squamous cell.  Well that word scared me but he said it was a very easy cancer to remove and he took a biopsy of it and sent it somewhere.  I felt good.
The next day dad took Brother Bush fishing at Tibble Fork and they actually caught some.  They fished from the shore and had a great time.  I went to Dr. Darley, who is in our ward, because my ears have been like I am under water.  He found my hearing to be very good but found nothing to cause the bubbles.  He had me get some Flonase but it isn’t helping.  That afternoon Scott came and put a rail in our bathtub so we would have something to hold on to for safety.  We love it.
He also painted that bathroom a lighter color and we love that also.
Rowan came with him and we had a grand time.
Before he left he helped dad load a bar-b-q onto our truck so we could take it to the  metals dump.

The next day, August 22 was Nixon’s 8th birthday.  He is so much fun and has way too much energy, which we love.  He will be baptized next month.  He loves to create and build things with his dad’s tools.  He is a happy boy who loves his sisters.  His loves to do anything with his family.

Rowan jumped out of a bag and yelled  "Happy Birthday"
At 3:30, we left for Kolton’s game only to find him on the bench with ice wrapped on his ankle.  He’s tough so it won’t be long before he plays again.  The score was 35-0 so it was a good game to miss.  He is on the 1st string JV.

 Parker and Kolton
On the way home we were so hungry that we ate at Mi Ranchitos.  It was so good. Cindy Hoopes and some of her family were there.  She is a wonderful gal who is beating cancer.  It was a good day.

Friday the 23rd, we went with the Seamons to the Jordan River Temple for a session.

After the session we went to Smith and Edwards to look around.  It is an amazing place.  They have everything and the store is new and huge. It is nothing like the one on the way to Cache Valley.  Dad bought some para cord and I bought some plastic cow heads so the grands could learn to rope.  I can’t wait to show them.
After that we went to Carl’s Jr. for lunch.  We always have fun when we go to the temple together.
Saturday, we went to Eagle Mountain at Hidden Hollow, to watch Jonny in a bike race.
He did so well.  It was  definitely a hidden place because we drove on a very rough road to get there and then had to walk 100 miles up hill.  I’m sure that is correct.  It was all worth it.  He biked 6 miles.

We worked in the garden when we got home and Erik’s boys (Camden and Asher) mowed the lawn.  I don’t know what we would do without their help.
dad's new invention to pick up fallen apples
Sunday we drove to Riverton to attend  Brother and sister Bond’s home coming.  They served in Palmyra with us.
Of course we went with the Seamons. The Barrets and the Lindsays were also there.  We love being with missionaries from the Palmyra Temple Mission.  The Lindsays are going to Rome on the 8th to be in the temple for 3 months.  We would do that in a heart beat.  It isn’t a mission but just a time to be there.
Monday we did some ministering by taking our people, family and some neighbors some of our nectarines.  They are so delicious.  We also bought a new bar-b-q in that ours was ancient and not safe.

Scott came Tuesday to check on some things.  We always love when the kids come and visit for awhile.

August 28th Erik turned 44 today. He is such a good man and honors his priesthood which is so important to him.  He loves his 4 boys and especially their mother.  He is so good to help these young men in every activity they endeavor.  He loves being in the high school where his boys have gone and will go.  He is a true family man.  We love him for the goals he has set and the way he strives to accomplish them.

George finally got his implant this morning and it looks so good. When he got home we left for the Provo Temple to do some sealings.  We were able to do 24 with 2 of them being 2 boys who had never been sealed to their parents.  They were the only ones not sealed and after a long period were able to be a whole family due to George's determination to find them.
This evening Clark, Di, Lily and for a few minutes, Hailey came and helped pick our garden. We cannot believe the yield they were able to take home.
We don't know if you can tell, but this is a zucchini being held down by a yard decor.
The produce was just beautiful.

They stayed and visited for a while, which we love.
The next day was my surgery for the cancer in my eyebrow.  I was a little nervous but George and Clark had given me a blessing so I knew things would be okay.
It did not take very long and the doctor was wonderful.  I can't say her name because I can't spell it.  (Dr. Payam Tristani) She got everything the first time so I didn't have to go back in for more cutting.  I was there at 7:30 and left at noon to wait for stitches and went back until 3:30.  It was a long day but no pain.
I can't bend down or lift things but must be calm and rest so the bleeding will be minimum.  I slept the rest of the day with very little pain.  That evening Dad went to the BYU vs Utah game.  It didn't start until 8:15.  I was in no way able to go, for which I am very grateful.  With 8 or so minutes left in the game, it poured rain and there was lightning so they had a delay.  Of course your dad stayed to the end.  He got home at 1:00 AM, soaking wet.  BYU lost 30-12
Aug. 30th I also rested a lot.  The Dr. said I was to be so careful for 3 days and then Dad will be able to take the bandage off.  I took some nectarines to my neighbor across the street.  We love to share our produce.  Dad did everything to help me especially by carrying the laundry to the machine and then to the line.  I am so blessed that he married me.  He is the best.
The last day of the month dad was able to remove the gauze
and put on a lighter covering.  He did an excellent job. I'm going to start calling him Dr. Bayles.  Sure do love him.

We have a good life.  We love being together and having some of our family close,  We love all of you and miss those we don't see often enough.  We love being able to attend the temple.   The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the foundation of our lives.
