THE DESERT (GARDEN) BLOSSOMS LIKE A ROSE

Notice the scarecrow in the back right is Dad.
We started this month by Granddad choosing to do the diet Kristin has been on, OPTAvia.  She will be his coach.  Believe it or not, he is excited.  He had to weigh in today;  257.1 (September Update: 229.7) I feel better and have more energy.  I have taken my belt in a notch and had to get a smaller size garment top. )
                                                                              week 1
                                                                             week 4
Sunday our church was Kristin's, Tiff's and us.  It was very spiritual and dad told a very tender life experience.  Other also shared.
Tuesday we were invited to a reception at the Wadley Farm Castle.  I have wanted to go there ever since it was built, a couple of years ago.  It is huge and looks like castles you see in Europe.  We decided to invite Ava and Rowan to go with us.  When we went to pick them up I could hear Rowan screaming with excitement.  She was going to see a real prince and princess.  She was not disappointed and neither was I.  When it came our turn in line she hid behind Ava.  It was just a lovely evening.  The refreshments were Magelby's chocolate cake, among other things.

The next day we worked in the yard and Beth brought the kids over to paint our rockers in the front.

Friday, the 7th, we went shopping for ingredients for dad's new diet.  It took forever but he is doing so well.
These are the fuelings that he has every 3 hours.  He says they are tasty.
It has been 1 week and he has lost 14.8 pounds and 12.7 inches.  WaHoo!  It is exciting!

Sunday our meeting was so filled with the Spirit.    We love it when we can learn together.  Scott led us in a wonderful talk where we  learned about Moroni building a fortress of earth around the city, fortifying it and defeating Amalickiah and his men.  Moroni's people were fighting for their families and their faith.  Kristin's family built a model showing the city and fortress, out of LEGOS.  We think more were built later.
Monday I read Elder Holland's talk from conference. WOW!  I heard it and read it.  It is so powerful.  I encourage you to read it. He mentioned that we have every reason to hope for blessings even greater that we have already received.  We know this is the restored church of Jesus Christ and contains all truth.

Thursday the 13th we took a trip to Malad Idaho to see Uncle Jay Baker.
Aunt Belvelene died July 15th but only immediate family could be at the funeral so we waited to visit until a little time had passed  He was lost but doing well.  He talked to us for a couple of hours just sharing the last few months and letting us know just how it all came about.  He was teary but we feel it was very helpful for him.  He enjoyed the time and we did too.  He is a very special man and the only aunt or uncle we both have left on this earth.  He is 89 and so was she.
They graduated from high school together and had been married for 70 years.  We love this man.  When we were ready to leave, he gave me a doll buggy Aunt Bev had saved for me.  In all this healing I forgot to take a picture of him so I used one his son David had.
After our visit we went to see Dave and Elaine Mills.  They are farmers in Samaria which is minutes from Malad.  We served with them on our mission to the Palmyra Temple and have so much love for them.  They are people who serve diligently for the Lord.  They knew my parents when they were in Malad.  I did take a picture but she had been working in the yard and she is too beautiful and a true lady to post it.
Friday we got a visit from Pete and Iris Titsworth who also served with us on our mission in Palmyra.  They are from Arkansas and were such fun to be with.  She is not even 5 feet tall.  When we left she gave us some beautiful things she had made for our kitchen,  We just love these people we were able to serve with.
Sunday only Kristin's family joined us.  Scott and Tiff's family were in driving to their homes after spending several days in California at a beach house.  They had a tremendous time and many memories.
Dad gave a great lesson on the Sons of Helaman.  They were so young, teenagers, but loved the Lord and their families so much and fought so valiantly for freedom and the truth.  They had parents who taught them about our Savior, Jesus Christ and living clean lives as the Lord would have them do.  They were completely obedient.  How we love the stories from the book of Mormon.  They are so true and teach us how to return to live with our families forever.  Nothing is better than that.

Monday, Dianne and the girls came to pick in the garden.  We love it when they come because it's really the main time we see them.  This pandemic keeps us away from others and we do miss seeing family.
Riley's missionary letter was as usual so good this week.  He talked about our repenting and then let the Lord take it.  That is a hard lesson but so true.  We love how our Savior atoned for each one of us because he loved His Father and all people so much.  What a blessing it is to have this truth.
We love that our missionary, Parker, was able to go to Eugene, Oregon after having to leave Japan because of the Covid 19.  He is doing so much service for others and is such an obedient servant for our Savior.
Thursday, we braved the
Coved 19 and got haircuts.  Susie cherry does a great job and we are now not so shaggy.  Camden had his first sophomore football game this evening.  He told us he didn't think he would get to play but we went anyway.  He played most of the second half.  They were behind but while he was paying they scored 3 times and won the game.  He played very well.  Of course we sat away from people and wore our masks while leaving.

Coach Erik and Camden after the game.  H changed numbers 3 times.
Friday we went to the distribution center to buy clothing.  We haven't been there since March so we needed to get some things.  We both bought clothing for the temple and other things.  That evening we couldn't go to Kolton's varsity game because of the Covid 19.  It is so wonderful because KSL films it live on line.  They also won. The picture is bad because I had to take it from the TV.  #7

Saturday the 22nd was a big day because it was Nixon's (Scott and Beth) 9th birthday.
He is such a fun boy who loves life.  He is part of a family who loves him so very much and he loves them and the two dogs  They do so many things together.  He loves playing soccer and we love going to his games.  He has so much energy and loves being busy, especially creating things.  He is in third grade and loves school and we love him.
Clark, Dianne, Lily, Jonny and of course the dog Watts, came to pick the garden today.  They help us from beginning to end.  With 20 tomato plants etc. there is plenty to do.
Erik, Shanelle, Camden and Asher did the lawn.  We are so blessed having this help but most of all we just love seeing family.
Dad has been working on a table for me and finally finished it after many months of work.  He put the legs on today.

For church Sunday we watched a tour Kristin set up on the Carthage Jail.  It was done by 2 sister missionaries.  It took us right there and we went into every room.  The martyrdom was very effective.  At the end of the presentation, Elder Holland bore his fervent testimony of the power of this event and the lasting impact upon the world.  She is going to do other on line things like this.  We don't think any eyes were dry by the end.  It was a very humbling reminder of what the Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother, Hyrum, endured.
After working in the yard Monday, we went inside for a bite.  The microwave was dead so we studied on line and then went to see if we could find what we wanted.  We went to Cosco first but couldn't find one.  As we passed the desk chairs, one jumped out and landed in our cart so we had to buy it.  It is perfect for dad 'cause he works on genealogy for at least 3 hours a day.

We had a very difficult time getting it into my car.  We had to put the back seats down and work very hard.  We went to several stores and finally ended up at Best Buy for the microwave.  The boy had to work to get it in my car.  Why didn't we take the truck?  Go figure.  It works like a charm.
Tuesday the 25th Cliff and Carma Bush came and we picked tomatoes with them so she could do some canning.  We just love being with these people.
Granddad picks these little ones every day for munchies.
Friday, the 28th was Erik's birthday.  He is now 45.
He came into this world with such a loving spirit and was such an easy baby and child.  He never cried unless Tiffani made him so she could get a turn to hold him.  He replace all of her dolls.  He was always happy and loved being loved.  He was a good student and easy to please.  He is now a great father of 4 boys and their home is filled with love for each other and Jesus Christ.  He chose the perfect wife, Shanelle, to help him build a home filled with love and service to others.  He loves being a husband, father, teacher and coach. We love him so much.
Saturday, Erik came with the boys to mow.  Their home in is quarantine because Asher came home from school with this horrible Covid19.  He is doing very well now.  The  boys could mow because we were never near them.  We will be so happy when this pandemic is over.  Lily also is in quarantine because she was where someone had it.  This quarantine lasts for 2 weeks so it is very hard on students even though they wear masks.
Today was also Brigitta's birthday.  She is my brother Del's wife.  We are so happy to have her in our family; she makes Del so happy.
We picked tomatoes, peppers and an onion so we could can 9 pints of hot salsa.  It is so good.

Sunday we went to our building for church for the first time since March because of the Covid.  There were about 60 people there.  We can now go every other Sunday if we wear masks and follow the spacing rules.  It was good to see people and share with them the good Spirit that was there.  Our ward is divided by alphabet so there are not too many in attendance each week.  The meeting is only  45 minutes.  We love having our meetings with just our family and will continue doing both meetings.  We did Zoom in but other families had meetings so Kristin and Tiff's families just visited.  We did watch another visit in Nauvoo in The Wilford Woodruff, John Taylor and Brigham Young homes.  The sister missionaries were in charge and did a good job.
Monday we picked our raspberries and canned 9 half-pints of jam.

We love our garden and that we can share it with others.  The Lord has blessed us in so many ways and we are so grateful for the blessings we receive.
Our families are so wonderful and such a gift to us.  They strive to do what is right in so many ways and are such good parents and people.  We love it when we can see some of them and how often they help us with things that are getting too hard for us.  This Covid19 has been very difficult but each family has attacked this problem in such positive ways and with counsel from the Lord.  We will endure and grow because of this hick-up in our world.  The Lord is is mindful of each of us and we will grow and become better people because of it.  The restored gospel of Jesus Christ is on the earth now and is led by Him.  We are so grateful for our Prophet, Russell M. Nelson, who guides us and helps us in following the doctrine of Christ and following the Spirit of the Holy Ghost.  We are in good hands.
