AUTUMN IN NEW YORK

Oct. 1, 2018  The wonderful thing about home evening is that it is always about something around here.  Tonight was Richard Robins (Robin Bayles's husband) who talked about the Prophet Joseph.  He is over the site missionaries and taught in the church education system.  He is so good the time just flies.
Again, we don’t talk much about the temple because it is just too sacred to put out there.
Oct 3rd I got a sonogram and had to have 32 oz. of water in my system when we got to Rochester.  You know how I ran into the clinic.  It is the size of a hot dog in a bun, not round.  It is hanging down.  Then another test, the probe.  Such a fun day.  We did get to go to Costco in that we can see it from the hospital.  Gas is cheaper there and it’s always fun to be I a store with choices.
Oct. 6th and Bethany’s birthday.  Scott chose the very best person to share eternity with.  She is such a loving wife and an exceptional mother  We are so blessed to have her in our family.  She amazes us with her any talents she shares with others.  We love her as our own.

We left for Booneville NY  The motel is just 9 mile from the park, very beautiful and nice and so less expensive.  I wanted to stay in this hotel.  Hotel Leyden
We found Pixley Falls 4 miles from our motel.

We wanted to see the beautiful colors of fall.  We did.  We took the Seamons with us.  We have become very good friends and travel pals.  Our first place was Old Forge.  It is like Park City as a fun place to walk around.  From the time we left Palmyra, we took all highways and freeways off our GPS, so the scenery was wonderful.  The back roads are so filled with beauty and no traffic.

color everywhere

This one is for Tiff
We were able to get some of conference because our car has wifi.  It was so good, especially our Prophet.
The next day we had a good breakfast and headed for McCauley Mountain and a ski lift.  It was so fun and only cost $5 a person.

the comforts of home

The trees were filed with color.  We ate dinner in Old Forge again and had huge turkey sandwiches with potatoes and gravy.  So yummy.  It was hard not to buy souveniers but it was the Sabbath.
a cemetery and a town
 There is just beauty everywhere.

The next day we left the Adirondacks to meet with the other missionaries in Canandaigua at Bristol Mountain for lunch and another ride on a ski lift.  Scott said it was famous for downhill skiing.

 Our year long missionaries
It was a very steep ride but so beautiful with the fall colors.  It is about 30 minutes from our house.  Another fun day.  Needless to say we were so tired by the time we got home, that on the way home we stopped at a place in Naples, that is so famous for grape pies.  They are so good.
It is the time of year that these big potato looking bugs hit Palmyra.  They have not discovered a formula to kill them so they are everywhere.  Dad killed over 30 when we walked in the spare bedroom.  They have green guts and just are such a pest.  They only last about a week and are gone when the cooler air hits.  They're the size of a Lima bean.
We love the roadside produce.
I have a thing about barns.

The best thing on Friday was that we got to watch PG play football on our computer.  The boys lost but we were so proud of them.  We feel we are there.
Tiffani sent us some decor for fall.

Oct 13th we found that our check for our mountain HOA was delivered with the bottom third torn off, which made our bank routing and account numbers missing.  AGAIN we have to change our bank number and notify the services that use our automatic baking to let them know of the change. UGH!
Church in Niagara was wonderful.  It was fast Sunday because of conference and the counselor who conducted said in his testimony that we must decrease ourselves and increases our Savior.  The rest of the meeting seemed to keep that idea and told of times members were trying to put this to use in their lives,  It made us think of how we can do that better.  The Spirit was very strong.  We took a new beautiful route home with many fall colors.
Saw Dr. Moore and he is more worried about one of my kidney’s not working properly than the cyst.  He is an oncologist and said there is no worry about cancer.
We liked this rainy day at the temple.

Home evening was in the RS room with two of our local temple workers, Spencer and Sarah Jensen.

He has finished studying at Eastman School of Music with his Masters and choosing where to work on his Doctorate. He is an accomplished double bass fiddle musician.  He played for us and his wife accompanied him on two of the numbers.  We never knew the bass could make such mellow and beautiful music, our favorite was both of them playing his arrangement of “Our Savior’s Love.”  We are waiting for him to release it.  It stirred our souls.

Wednesday we went to the Sodus Lighthouse with the Seamons.
 very cold and windy

There were buckeyes all over the lawn.  They are poisonous.
 I loved this little lighthouse.

It is about 45 minutes from Palmyra but we got lost so it took us much longer but the scenery was so beautiful, we didn’t mind.  It is a beautiful structure right on Lake Ontario.  It was a cold and very windy day so the quiet lake was beautiful with ocean-like waves.  We visited the lighthouse and climbed to the top.  It was so beautiful with the wild weather.  On the way home we stopped at an apple farm and bought some apples that we had never heard of (Olympic and Italian) which were so delicious.
This is the way they prune and grow apples here.  Notice the tiny trunks and how short they are.  They are loaded with big apples in the summer and fall.
These are cherry tomatoes

full grown

On our way home we traveled by many Amish homes, farms and people.
Notice the boys in their wonderful hats.  We don't stop to take pictures so I missed them with the buggy.

The 21st was Sunday and I had some serious repenting to do. I visited with the Lord and he reminded me of several things, three of which I will mention. I was upset about our new schedule and then I remembered when Cameron came home from trek and I asked him what he learned and he said, "I learned I can do hard things.  Next I remembered Ephraim Hanks, my great, great grandfather, when he said "I am ready now."  Not like in the movie but when he met with Brigham Young, the prophet.  Next, that very day I got a text or email from Tiff telling about her mission and the hardships and how she grew and loved the time she served.  I felt very little and unworthy.  We can never serve the Lord too long or too much.  I thank all of you for the examples you have been in my life.  You make me stretch and grow.  We are on that schedule now and love it.
We were driving down this road and the view of this little church was so beautiful.
A beautiful spot on the Erie Canal
Wednesday the 24th I had an appointment with my urologist, Dr. Rashid, for more pictures to see when the surgery would be,  The sonogram really hurt but I was glad to know it would be over soon.
We stopped at Costco on the way home and I really didn't feel the pain.  A few minutes later the office called to say my stones had dislodged and the kidney was working as it should.  We are so grateful for the blessing Max and Dad gave me, the prayers of the missionaries, my name on the prayer roll, and the prayers of our family at home.  The power of the priesthood is so strong and we love knowing and using its power and goodness.  I am so thankful for a husband who is worthy of using that authority and blessing in our home and wherever needed.
We were so excited to get home that I set my glasses on the cart at Costco and when we got almost to Palmyra and stopped for our flu shots I realized I didn't have them.  We called but no one could find them.  Dad said that maybe they were where we had parked so we headed back with not much hope.  No luck and no one had parked there and the carts had not been taken in.  We went inside but no luck there either until a worker said to look in the optical department.  Someone had turned them in just 15 minutes before.  Again, how blessed we are.
The 25th we went to Victor to adjust my root canal bite.  We took all the back roads which were so beautiful.

This is an old museum where there is a wall that people long ago would sign to notify they had been there.  Because we had been at a doctor's we missed it but the Seamons went and found a beautiful signature  "Bayles" on the wall but they couldn't read the first name.  The museum closed that day.  There is a Bayles furniture store close by.
We went to the mall for a Charlies' Philly cheese stake and homemade root beer.  Doesn’t get better than that.
The best thing about Friday was that we got to watch Parker and Kolton in the play-offs.  They were expected to lose but they came through victoriously.  We felt like we were in the stands due to Deseret News filming the game as we watched it on our computer.
 They had the greatest fans

The next day, 27th was Hailey's birthday.  There's no way to describe how very gifted she is.  She has the ability to make anyone happy and loves to be with her family.  She serves the Lord in her everyday activities and is a great example to all.  We love her so much and are very proud of her.
On our way back from Newark the highway is right along the Erie Canal.  Can't believe how wide it is here.  This is 4 or 5 miles from Palmyra Village. People have their homes right on the water.

Sometime in all of this the Clark Bayles family had Thanksgiving dinner before Elder Riley Bayles left for his mission.  What a family.
Traveling to church in Niagara was so pretty.

Two of our missionaries spoke and they really delivered gospel doctrine messages.  After church we chose highway18 to go home along Lake Ontario.  We do spend 8 hours every Sunday going, serving, and going back home.  We love it and it is always beautiful.  We try to go a different way every time.  This day we took peanut butter and jam sandwiches and ate along the lake. It was very stormy, rainy and cold, but so beautiful.
This is 4 mile creek where the British fought in the French and Indian War and put a siege on Fort Niagara.

After our picnic in the car, we went to Lockport for our picnic in the car, then went to  a Festival of Faiths, from 4:-6.  We met the Seamons there. It was in the ward chapel there and had many faiths present their ideas.  We went to the Baha'i and Judaism.  Others were Muslim, Buddhism, Hindu Islam and Sikh.  There were others but we only had a choice of 2 and we saw that they didn't have any people so we did those.  Next year we hope they make the classes shorter so we can choose more.  Our people do so much to let others that we respect their beliefs and are trying to show love for all
people.  We got home at 9:00, 13 hour day.
fuzzy but this is the temple at night.
At 8:00 the next morning we left with the other missionaries, (we are left with just 10 couples now that the 6 month missionaries are gone) and headed for Cooperstown.  We took all highways and freeways off and hit the little roads.  They are so much prettier.  We got to the town at the same time as the others did, two and a half hours.

October 30th was my brother, Del’s 80th birthday.  He is a great brother.  I may mention siblings birthdays in the future but no promises.

The last day of October we decided to take a walk in the grove.  It had been raining all night and was very cold and wet but it is always beautiful, no matter what.

We continue to pray for our wonderful family and love them so very much  We pray that they will realize just how blessed we are to have the truth in abundance.  We know exactly what we need to do to have our families forever and nothing gives us more joy.  We are so proud of the grandchildren we love and have.  They have been taught to be kind and loving and they know they have a Father in heaven who loves them and wants them forever.  So do we.
